nyc: friday, september 26

We woke up early enough to see the sunrise, after a late night of packing and um...ahem...blogging. Though we didn't actually see the sunrise, since we were running around getting everything together. We got 100% ready and packed, loaded the car, then woke Kapria up.

She was groggy but cheerful.
and curious.

I had been telling her all week that she would be staying at Weston's house for a few days while mom and dad went away. I think she was excited to finally be going there.

Excitement confirmed.

We arrived and Kapria wanted nothing to do with us...

and everything to do with the toys in the toy basket.

We were sad to say goodbye. But I think a little giddy to be going away together,
just the two of us.

Giddiness subsided when we arrived in Denver. Long story short: we hopped on an earlier-than-our-scheduled-one, but late-running flight to NYC. "Don't worry. with all thise time we've been sitting around, your luggage will be on that plane."

Arrive in New York at 9:30pm. We're in NYC!

wait.
wait.
wait.

Our luggage is not here.

The next flight (our original one that was supposed to arrive at 8:30) will arrive at 10:30pm, hopefully with the luggage.

frontier: "We can deliver it to your apartment tomorrow."
but that means we must wait at the apartment.
me: let's just wait here and get it. then we'll have pajamas and soap and clean clothes." (remember my laundry issue).

So we wait.
wait.
wait.

luggage arrives around 11:30pm.

hooray.

(too tired for an exclamation point. have you ever been to the la guardia airport? we wished we would have just waited for our first-though-late flight in denver. much nicer airport. and better food. and cleaner. welcome to NY.)

take taxi to apartment.
a shower.
a bed.

aaah.

we're home

...and have been for a week now. We've been trying to catch up with laundry, callings, work, cleaning, mail, family, email, friends, and everything else that's ignored when you go on vacation. And I even had cleaned the house and done all loads of laundry before we left...yet still it's waiting for me when I get home. Going out will do that to me, though. I can't wear anything twice after sitting on an airplane, bus, sub, or any form of public transportation, so I come home with more laundry than I left with. hmm. so maybe the "more" part is because I can't resist buying clothes when I'm on vacation, either.

Here's how much I have left
(not bad, I must say):

Oh, but here's what still needs to be folded
(and there's stuff rolling around in the dryer as I type):

Regardless of how busy the week has been, it's nice to be home. I love going on vacation, but I almost love just as much sitting at home with my slippers on, the heater blasting, a blanket wrapped around me, thinking about all that we did.

For one thing, my feet don't ache at the end of the day like they did in New York. How do any New Yorkers wear high heels and walk as much as they do every day? Crazy.

(i know...my feet need a pedicure. and i need new slippers. now i'm really glad I waited to get my birthday present from Autumn until after our trip. i think i'll appreciate the pedicure now that i walked for seven days straight. as for the slippers - i guess i should sew them.)

Anyway, I'm going to take our trip one day at time. I'm so glad that I actually wrote in my journal while we were gone (one good thing about riding the subway every day).

Here goes.
