Mom and Dad

This morning we woke up to the sound of Kapria talking. And what was she babbling about to herself, you ask? It sounded something like this:

momomom. da da da. momomom. da da da. buh. buh. ooo.

repeated for half an hour until she got bored and announced she was ready to get up.

Today was her first time saying dad! She's been saying mom since March 9th, I just forgot to post it. At first we weren't sure if she actually knew what she was saying, since mm is one of the first sounds most babies can make. But pretty quickly we realized she did know, and usually she says it when she wants me to pick her up. I love it.

Warm Weather

We love warm weather! Yesterday we want on a walk by Utah Lake so that Trav could take some photos for the class he's trying to pass off. It was so nice to be outside. This picture sums it all up.

Most all our friends and family who live close by and whom we see on a regular basis have boys or are having boys. It's inevitable that Kapria is going to be surrounded by them, so I guess it makes sense that she is fascinated by them. But did it have to be so soon?

Andrew had her giggling so much - it was adorable. Then he rolled away. Maybe he'll motivate her to get moving. She can roll, she just doesn't care to.

Kapria can sit up pretty well by herself, though she does tip over after a bit. So we make sure there are soft things to land on.






















We'll probably spend our whole lives trying to ensure that...I already imagine wishing it were as easy as putting a pillow behind her is now.

Stitches

Many of you have asked, so I'd thought we should post a Trav update. His leg is healing great. He was on crutches for a couple days afterwards, but by the weekend was walking without them. It's still sore and by the end of the day it usually throbs, but that's to be expected when someone digs around in your muscles I suppose. He'll see the doc next week to get the stitches out and the official prognosis.

It looks like the incision is the full length of the bandage. We'll be able to tell better next week.

He wasn't supposed to take the bandage off for 10 days (doctor's orders). But does that mean anything to Trav? ha ha!

Meeting Cousins

Last weekend we got to see several different cousins. Friday night Clark and Stefanie came to visit. We loved hanging out and getting to see them. We're so glad they're in Arizona now so we can see them during holidays that we're down there.

Then on Sunday we had dinner at the Anthony's and got to meet Kristen and Luke for the first time. Kristen and Adam have been married for 2 years now, and we still hadn't ever met her! It was fun to get to talk for a little while before they had to leave for the airport. Luke was sleeping most of the time, so we just got to see him for a few minutes before they left. But he is adorable! Kapria just wanted to touch his face - she was fascinated by him.

I looked out the Window and what did I see?

Every morning after breakfast Kapria loves to look out the window and watch the world for awhile. Usually she's standing in my lap and hugging me while she does it.



It's my favorite time with her.

Hotel Café Tour

Tonight Mariah and I went to this concert and it was AMAZING. I was mostly excited for Ingrid Michaelson, but everyone was fabulous. Our concert included Ingrid, Cary Brothers, Meiko, Dan Wilson, and Jim Bianco.

So here's a rundown of our night (I will say, the pics aren't great b/c they didn't allow flash, and then when I just decided to start taking them with a flash anyway, I think I was so zoomed in that they turned out fuzzy and dark. bummer). But still fun, so here goes...

We headed there early to leave "get lost" time for me, because I hate driving somewhere I've never been and inevitably get lost. I didn't get too lost...but I did turn down a few wrong streets. Good thing we left early. The venue was really small, which was so cool because we were on the third row (thanks to Ashley and Autumn)!

First we heard from Meiko.

She has a beautiful voice and some really cool songs. I didn't realize I'd heard her before. This picture is really fuzzy, but I don't care, you get to see it anyway. So she started the night out saying how disappointing it was that there was no alcohol allowed. And that was a sentiment that several of the performers reiterated. I personally think maybe they performed better :)

Then we heard from Jim Bianco.

He is an incredible performer and very much gets into his songs. Let's just say he loves being on stage and I'll just leave it at that. His last song he "penetrated the crowd" (his words) and he and the band came down off the stage and sang. I stood on the bench to see (this will come into play later). I didn't actually get a picture, so here's his cd cover.

Then Cary Brothers performed.

Another AMAZING singer/songwriter. Each person played a few songs, then went back stage. Then they did the rotation a second time. This picture is from Cary's second time performing, and he asked everyone to join him.

Dan Wilson was next.

And this is how lame I am - I had NO IDEA that he was the lead singer/songwriter of Semisonic. I have to admit, several of his songs I didn't really like. They seemed kind of hokey. Well, that's not the word to describe it. They'd be awesome and have this great musicality and lyrics, and then suddenly he would sing a stanza that just didn't fit with the rhythm. It was odd. And he's kind of long winded, which shouldn't bother me since obviously I am too! But anyway, on his final song he starts telling a story about a band and how when one member is having a baby, the whole band starts to dread hearing songs written about babies. So he wrote a song when his wife was having their baby and "hid" that it was actually about the baby. And that song was...Closing Time. which he sang and it was great. Go figure.

Finally, Ingrid Michaelson performed!

Of course the headliner is last, and she was totally worth the wait. Her voice is so clear and strong and just amazing. And she was really fun as she talked to the crowd.

Then they did the whole rotation again, with some people combining and singing with each other. And there were a couple where everyone sang together. And as I was sitting through the whole thing I just kept thinking, I love music so much!

After the concert ended, Mariah and I waited around until everyone started coming out to mingle with the fans. And we got lots of pictures!!

Here we are with band members - Jason played the guitar, and I'll be honest-guy with glasses I can't remember your name, but you were an AMAZING trumpet and clarinet player.

Happy 7 Months Old!

Kapria is 7 months old!

Here she is having fun with her stuffed buddies.

She:

• loves playing in her crib.
• is getting better at sitting up, though she does still fall over quite a bit.
  
• has rolled over a few times, but doesn't seem to mind just scooting herself and twisting her body to reach things.
  
• enjoys standing on the couch looking out the window each morning after breakfast.
  
• has tried: sweet potatoes, squash, peas, carrots, applesauce. she mostly likes sweet potatoes and applesauce. and she definitely has a certain spoon she likes. if it's not that one, even more food gets spit out.
  
• got her first tooth this month! it's on her bottom left side, and it's just so cute. she has actually been so good despite the fact that she's teething. she drools a lot, and chews on things like crazy, but has otherwise been her happy self.
  
• loves going outside on walks, or pretty much anywhere out of the house - within time limits. she wants to go out, but is usually ready to go home after about 2 hours.
  
• has lots of fun with Weston & Syanne. West has gotten really good about sharing - or rather, trading - with her. she never seems to mind...i wonder what it will be like when he trades out a toy she wants!
  
• attended her first St. Patrick's Day party - a smashing good time!
  
• loves Loves LOVES looking at books. she really is our daughter :)
  
• is growing so fast I can't believe it. every day bring something new and fun and we LOVE her!
  
  

Name That Comic

My company has a monthly newsletter that goes out to our customers. In each newsletter we include a comic. The idea is that teachers send in their funny school stories, and we illustrate their stories in our comic strip. However, we still haven't come up with a great name for the comic. So I'm posting our search for all of you - do you a have any great ideas for what our comic strip could be called?

All that anticipation over a pea...

Trav's surgery went extremely well. We got to the hospital at 7am and we were home by 1 pm. The tumor was located under the muscle, which is what caused the bump and the constant aching. It was about the size of a pea - who new something so tiny could cause so much pain?!

And the best news: the doctor is confident in saying that the tumor is benign. YAY!! It still has to be tested, so we'll hear back from pathology in about a week. Hopefully they will just be confirming what the doctor already told us. He also got a look at the second one (still deep in the muscle tissue, so it's staying there) and said it looked the same. I forgot to ask him how they can be certain that if one tumor is benign the other is as well. I'll have to ask that at the check up this week. Unless any of you know...

So now Trav just has to stay off his leg and elevate it and ice it for the next couple of days. The worst part was him getting sick from the medication...but we got some new stuff that makes him very happy.


Thanks to everyone for your prayers and emails and phone calls. We have felt much peace with the whole situation and know your love helped.

We'd rather be in Hawaii

I think it's safe to say that just about at any time we'd rather be in Hawaii (Trav especially, so long as Kapria and I were with him, since he's had a taste of the Island. I want to go once I can fit in a bathing suit again). But this will be most true tomorrow morning at 7am when we are at the hospital.

I love this picture because it is perfectly Shawn. He used to climb everything he could when we were growing up. Apparently he still does.









Anyway, I'll keep everyone posted on how the surgery goes. The tumor is close to the surface, so it really should be a pretty fast process to get it out. We've been told not a big deal at all. I am going to ask if I can watch. That would be sooo cool!

My awesome sister Nicole is watching Kapria at our house, which is made even more wonderful by the fact that we don't have to leave before 6:45 am to take her to a babysitter. I LOVE you, Nic!

Also, thanks to everyone who has offered help tomorrow. We appreciate it so much and are just grateful to feel strength from your prayers.
