music

I've added some new gems to my playlist. I also changed it to no longer play automatically. (It was annoying me to have to turn it off to see videos.) So if you want to hear, go turn it on. A few new additions:

The Swell Season - Star Star
Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - Falling Slowly
Lisa Hannigan - Lille
Frances England - Little Bright Star
Anna Nalick - In My Head and Forever Love

I'm so bummed that some of the songs won't play. I can't find them on playlist.com at all. But they're still listed so that one day I can buy all these songs and have them.

I'd love to hear what you're listening to right now. What are some of your favorite songs? Please share!

bookster

Imagine Learning released its first iPhone/iPad app called BOOKSTER. And guess what - it's free!

Here's a little blurb about it: Launch your kids into literacy with Bookster, the read-along storytelling app that reads to your kids, records and plays their voices, and teaches vocabulary along the way.

They'll be adding more stories soon, of which I've written a few. So go check out BOOKSTER on iTunes.

We're always working to improve our products, so let me know what you think of it. Now go get it! Remember, it's FREE!

potty diaries: it's been nearly a month

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Kapria:

In the last two weeks you have been doing really well with going potty, but we have had some struggles. You still don't want to go potty when I ask you to. First, we say, "Do you want to go potty now or in two minutes?" You always choose "two minutes."

When the two minutes have passed, we're trying to do what Nancee suggested by saying, "Let's go potty and then we'll [play princesses or some other fun thing] after!"

But you don't want to go. If I try to carry you, you throw yourself on the ground and kick and yell. Not always, but at least once a day.

So then I put you in your room, where you are able to calm down. But then you pee on the floor. Because really, you needed to go potty. I learned that would happen after the second time, so now I carry you and make you go potty even if you are yelling and kicking. You usually calm down once you're sitting on the toilet and realize you DO need to go.

I wonder if this is happening because we aren't giving you treats as often. In the last week we started only giving you treats when you remember and ask because we don't want you eating so much sugar now that you know how to use the potty. But you never want to take a break from what you're doing to go.

I think we need to try making the potty more happy, but without candy. Maybe you need to earn stickers for going potty.

Still, you do go. And sometimes you are really happy about it. When you need to go poop, you are really good about sitting down and going. It's just when you need to go pee.

Sometimes I just want you to wear a diaper again because it would be so much easier than making you sit on the toilet. But I know that wouldn't be good for you anyway. You like being a big girl. You really don't have very many accidents. I think maybe three in the last two weeks. You are doing awesome! And any time we are out grocery shopping or at other people's houses, you are really good about going.

I know your fits are coming because you are tired all the time. I have been reading a sleep book, and Dad and I are trying to help you get to bed easier at night. But it has been hard. We know from the book that you are sleep deprived: You rarely take naps, but then you go to bed around 8:30 or 9pm and wake up at 6:30 or 7am. Kids your age need 12 to 13 hours of sleep a day total, and you're only getting 10 or 11. This causes you to have a hard time listening during the day and to get upset easily.

You are such a happy girl. We just need to help you get calm and to bed earlier so that your happy personality can show beyond your tired one.

I love you. I love when you come up to me and tell me that you love me (nearly every morning). I love when you hug me and read aloud to me. I love being your mom. Every day. Every hour. All the time.

Love,
Mom
